My Story
I am a wife, a mother, a friend, a daughter, a business colleague, a board advisor, a leadership coach and mentor. I am a mix of my upbringing, education, friendship and experience.
My unique mix is strong business acumen and practicality along with deep empathy and understanding of what motivates us individually and as teams. My business acumen is grounded in education (BComm and Accountancy) and great roles in growing business (GE Capital, O2, Tesco Mobile). My passion is people, what makes us tick, what is unsaid, what makes us flow so that we work better together, have more fun and live our short time here to the full.
Now into my middle years of life, I practice what I coach - I engage, I put effort in, I wait, I try again and mostly it works be that a relationship, a project, working with a team. And sometimes it doesn’t, and when that happens I don’t fret too much, I wait and move with the next wave.
So what brought this insight? Listening and breathing. It started with listening to what is unsaid, which was advice from my husband’s uncle when we married. When we breathe well, we listen well, we still the noise in our own heads, we put our attention out on the other person. When we breathe and listen well we allow both what is being said and unsaid into our consciousness. When we listen well we can hear what is blocking the breath in a person, in a team and in an organisation.
It takes time to feel the breath of a team, of a business, it takes longer to be part of that breath. When a team/ organisation is in flow and breathing, we laugh, we have great ideas, we have fun, we do well. When the breath of a team is blocked, the whole team feels it but often can’t name it, we often think it’s our capability, we are not innovative, we can’t collaborate because he/she is so difficult, he/she doesn’t listen, he/ she doesn’t like me, I am no good and often we can’t say what we feel.
I see and feel the breath and the blockages in teams and organisations I work with. The breath can be a glance, it can be the smallest word, a blockage can be a silence, a resignation, a sickness.
But when the blockages are cleared and the team begins to flow, to gel, then the magic happens and there is no limit to success, to achievement, to living.
